Immunization
Lower levels of immunization status has allowed measles to infest our country. In 1990 there were 27786 cases of measles in the USA with 64 deaths associated (>1 in 500). Comparing this to the statistics from the year 2000 on, there were a maximum of two deaths per year. From 2000 to 2013 there was an average of 88 cases per year in our country. This increased to 667 cases in 2014 and 1282 cases in 2019. In 2019, 128 were hospitalized and 61 had severe disease. On average, one in every 4-5 measles cases are hospitalized, 1 in a 1000 will have brain abnormalities, another 1 in a 1000 will die. Also, 1 in 10000 more will die within the next 9 to 10 years from an associated neurological complication called SSPE. This is scary!
We believe that this and the increases in other immunization preventable diseases is because of vaccine hesitancy and refusal. We strongly believe in helping the children of this country. We strongly believe that immunization makes our society and population safer, stronger and healthier. We very strongly encourage all of America to pay attention to the science of vaccination and to immunize their children.
Please review our immunization statement and section on our website. We offer vaccine information appointments and highly encourage all of our patients to bring up the conversation for discussion and clarity.
Thank you for your help in our fight to make all children’s health as optimal as possible based on scientific evaluation and good medicine.
