Update on Retail

The American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) recently issued a statement discouraging the use of retail based clinics. These are clinics located in major drug stores or grocery stores. Examples are The Minute Clinic and The Take Care Clinic. We share the opinion of the AAP and have several concerns regarding these clinics:

  • The practitioner in retail based clinics often have little to no pediatric training.
  • We do not have a way to contact these clinics for follow-up and often do not receive any record of the visit.
  • Tests used for diagnosis often do not have adequate follow-up.
  • All of this results in more fragmented care of your child and a situation where your child’s chart is not a complete record.

Both of our offices have evening hours Monday through Thursday. The Springdale office has hours Saturday morning. We have a physician available on-call at any time that our office not open. If you need to take your child to an urgent care, we recommend going to a Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Urgent Care.
